RSMA Endowment Fund

The RSMA Trust financially assists the Royal School of Mines Students Union (RSMU) in managing student activities which support the RSM culture and help its students build a friendship network that will last throughout their careers (as many of us will appreciate and relate to).

Any support you give is for your RSM and funds will only be disbursed to worthy causes within the RSM, after approval by the RSMA committee. The RSMA has no overheads and the committee give freely of their time. All funds received through subscriptions and donations are therefore available for disbursement as appropriate. Note the RSMA does not receive any funding from Imperial College and thus relies on members’ generosity to fund its objectives.

RSMA 100 Club

In 2016 the RSMA committee, through the RSMA Trust, introduced the 100 Club. The objective of the 100 Club is to allow the committee to build up a fund to allow the “RSMA 100 Club” to give bursaries and/or scholarships” for deserving students selected after review of the Applications. Members join The 100 Club by committing £200pa, and it is hoped that 100 members will sign up – hence the title – to create a healthy fund of bursaries for deserving students. Members make a pledge (non-binding) to donate £200 per annum (although lesser contributions are also accepted) into the Trust for 10 years. For those members who are UK tax resident the Trust can further increase the funds by applying for Gift Aid on those donations. A prize of £250 is awarded twice a year following a draw of the active 100 Club Members at the RSMA Annual Dinner and the RSMA AGM. Finally, all 100 Club members receive a commemorative lapel badge as recognition of their generous donation.

The Bursaries are currently set at £1200 per student and are awarded annually with the first recipient being awarded in Oct 2018. Deserving students are selected by an RSMA/RSMA Trust panel in conjunction with the RSM Departmental Undergraduate Study Directors.

In addition, the funds raised allow the RSMA to expand its activities and awards such as Hardship Funds and to sponsor RSM students on College field trips and the like. These awards also raise the profile of the RSMA amongst the students and encourages them join the RSMA now or in the future.
